A significant proportion of the world’s population depends on water supply systems that pose significant risk to their health, while an even greater proportion lacks technologies for the collection, transportation, treatment and safe disposal of wastewater. These challenges are further exacerbated by a rapidly changing climate that is leading to the destruction of water and wastewater infrastructure, deterioration in water quality, water scarcity and food insecurity. Addressing these challenges requires the development of robust and resilient water and sanitation infrastructure that are environmentally friendly, socially acceptable and cost-effective.
This group is actively involved in national and international projects that are tailored towards addressing existing, emerging and future challenges in the water and sanitation sector. The research group has an extensive network of national and international partners including those in the private sector.
